Beans, beans are good for your heart…

Beans are good for us for many reasons and are a great source of protein! One of the main reasons some people don’t eat beans is due to the gas they can deliver. However, you can do some things to lower this. First, make sure you rinse canned beans very well. If using dry beans, soak them about 8 hours. Discard the soaking water and rinse well. Don’t serve them with dairy products like cheese and sour cream. Dairy can cause stomach bloat and gas as well. If you’re vegan you wouldn’t use dairy anyway. Instead, serve them with easily digestible foods like a side of rice (grains) and a salad (greens). Also, if you’re not used to eating beans you should start by only eating 1/4 cup and slowly increase your intake daily.

Blueberry Cherry Smoothie

IMG_4775b
One of my all time favorite smoothies! I start out by frosting 2 juice glasses in the freezer.
Makes 2 Servings:
1 cup frozen blueberries
15 fresh cherries pitted
3/4 cup almond milk
1 tablespoon agave
2 teaspoons fresh ginger finely grated or (1 teaspoon dry)
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons chia seeds
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
**Studies show that blueberries reduce memory loss and have anti-cancer effects. Cherries are a good source of fiber and vitamin C. They help in preventing cancer and cardiovascular disease. Ginger is great for reducing stomach issues, nausea, motion sickness and pain relief. Chia seeds are among the healthiest foods on this planet. They are loaded with nutrients, antioxidants, fiber, and are a quality protein.
